Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsWhen someone searches "tax preparer near me" in the cold weeks of winter, Google shows a map and three listings above everything else. Most clicks and calls go to those three. We manage the profile that decides whether your accountant's office is one of them, from the categories and service list to the photos, the hours that change around deadlines and the reviews that tell a stranger it is safe to call.
Why it matters
For a local accountant or bookkeeping business, the Business Profile is frequently a first impression. A person reads the star rating, glances at two reviews, taps the phone number and calls, never visiting your site. That makes the profile more than a directory entry. It works as a small storefront that has to answer the questions the front desk gets most: are you taking new clients, do you do business returns, are you open on Saturday, can I upload documents.
Accountants have an extra challenge: the right answer changes through the year. In April the right call to action is "book a consultation," while in May it may be "now accepting bookkeeping clients." We handle those shifts as routine updates instead of leaving the profile to go stale.
Setup
The single biggest signal
Choose the one that matches the work you most want, whether that is Accountant, Certified public accountant, Tax preparation service or Bookkeeping service. Check the live list in your dashboard, since names change.
For each real service line
Payroll service, business management consultant or tax consultant, only for services you actually perform. Adding unrelated ones can dilute the listing.
Specific entries, not a dump of keywords
Individual returns, business returns, monthly bookkeeping, payroll setup, IRS notice response, each with a short, plain description.
Written for people, not for robots
Who you serve, the credentials your team holds, what clients should bring and how to book.
Real people and real rooms
The office, the front door, the parking, the preparers. A stranger needs to picture arriving, or at least trust the people behind the screen.
Appointment and portal paths
An appointment link to a consultation, a way to request a quote and the correct main website page, not the home page by default.
The calendar
| Period | What the profile should say | What we update |
|---|---|---|
| Early January | Now preparing returns; documents checklist; how to book | Hours, appointment link, a post about the opening of filing season and which returns you take |
| Late February to March | Capacity notes; waitlist or priority for existing clients | A short description edit or post if you stop taking new individual returns, so people do not waste calls |
| April deadline week | Extension help and last-minute appointments, if you offer them | Special hours, the phone path that handles urgent calls |
| May to June | Now accepting small business and bookkeeping clients | Posts about monthly bookkeeping and a new-client consultation link |
| Mid-year | Quarterly estimates, payroll setup, planning | Services list review and fresh photos |
| September to October | Extension filers, year-end planning | Posts about planning conversations and the extension deadline |
| Late year | Year-end tax planning before the calendar closes | Holiday hours, planning-meeting booking |
Dates move with the calendar and with your team's schedule. The principle is that the profile follows your real capacity.
Rules
Google distinguishes between accountants and other businesses that meet customers at a location and those that travel to customers or work remotely. A firm with a staffed office that clients visit can show its street address. A solo accountant or bookkeeper working from a home office who never receives clients there should check Google's guidelines on service-area businesses before deciding whether to hide the address. A virtual firm that serves clients by secure upload and video call should not list a mailbox or a shared coworking desk as a staffed office, since Google treats that as a violation that can lead to suspension.
If you have several offices, each needs its own profile with a real address, a local phone number and staff on site. We help map which locations qualify and set up each profile separately, never copying one description across them.
Reviews
Ask after your accountants deliver something clients like, such as a filed return, a successful bookkeeping cleanup or a resolved notice. Avoid the week before a deadline.
Send a short, direct link to the review form after the engagement wraps, from a person at the firm, with no incentive attached.
Thank the reviewer without naming services, amounts or anything in a return. If you must respond to a complaint, move the conversation offline.
Some boards limit how testimonials may be used in advertising. Confirm yours before you highlight reviews elsewhere.
Tracking
A Business Profile can show how many people called, asked for directions or clicked to your website, but those numbers do not tell you which calls became clients. We set up call tracking and tagged links so that the profile, the site and your ads can each be measured. Your front desk plays a role too: asking every new caller how they found you takes ten seconds and beats any dashboard. Over a full season, a simple tally often shows that a handful of profile actions led to your best retainer clients.
Call recordings need care. A conversation with an accountant can involve sensitive details, and recording laws differ by state. Ask your counsel before turning on any recording feature, and avoid keeping audio you do not need.
Category choices
| Firm type | Likely primary category | Reasonable additions |
|---|---|---|
| Full-service CPA practice | Certified public accountant or Accountant | Tax preparation service, bookkeeping service, business management consultant |
| Seasonal tax preparer | Tax preparation service | Tax consultant, accountant if you offer more than returns |
| Bookkeeping-focused firm | Bookkeeping service | Accountant, payroll service, tax preparation service if you also file |
| Enrolled agent practice | Tax consultant or Tax preparation service | Accountant, financial consultant only if truly offered |
| Advisory-led firm | Business management consultant or Accountant | Tax consultant, financial consultant where accurate |
Category names change, and some may be restricted for certain credentials. Confirm the live list in your dashboard and match the wording to your license and board rules.
Photos
So they can find you
A clear daytime shot with the entrance and signage, plus a photo of the parking or the nearest transit stop.
The first impression
A tidy, welcoming space with no clients or documents visible.
Real faces
Individual and team portraits, in a natural setting, which help overcome the worry about handing over private information.
Where the work happens
A table, a screen and plain surroundings, no stock-looking images and no paperwork on display.
Local ties
Photos from a chamber event or a local fundraiser, only with permission from everyone shown.
Protect it
Business profiles are open to suggested edits, and accountant listings draw more than their share of trouble. Competitors file false "closed" reports. Lead brokers create fake profiles that route calls to a call center. Well-meaning visitors propose a category change that moves you out of the map for your best search. Treat the profile like a bank account: watch it, set up notifications and log every change.
Never put keywords such as "accountant" in the business name, since Google treats it as a violation and can suspend the listing. Never create a profile at an address where nobody works. If your listing is suspended, a clean record of your real address, license and hours makes a reinstatement request far easier, and we keep those documents on file for every client. Because tax conversations may be sensitive, never mention client names or results in reviews, posts or replies, and never post anything that reveals which clients you serve.
Pricing
Details
Profile management, citations and review handling are built into the Organic Growth tiers, priced at $1,495, $2,495 and $3,495 a month. If you only want the landing pages, those are $495 a month. You pay nothing at signup and can leave at any time.
Yes, and you should. Use special hours for deadline week, holidays and any period when you are offering extended availability. Wrong hours lead to missed calls and one-star reviews, so we treat them as routine updates.
Update the profile description and a post to say so. It avoids wasted calls, protects your rating and leaves room to keep marketing business bookkeeping and advisory work, which usually continue past April.
Steadily. A repeatable request process after each completed engagement adds up over a season, and quality responses help. Never buy or write reviews, since Google removes them and can penalize the listing.
Possibly, depending on whether you have an eligible physical presence and Google's current rules. If not, the better path is niche pages and search visibility, not a borrowed address. We review the situation before recommending anything.
Check it often. Anyone can post there, so seed it with accurate answers to the real questions clients ask, such as document upload and appointment types, and remove or report wrong ones. We also check it for spam.
